A driveway is an area of a property that tends to receive far more wear and tear than any other part. Use by vehicles leads to a build-up of dirt and grime on the surface of the drive. However, using an effective driveway cleaner and then sealers, can help to keep a driveway looking good at all times.
There are various types of driveway surfaces such as block paving, imprinted concrete, tarmac and paving slabs. All of these driveway surfaces need maintenance from time to time. Otherwise, they can start to look unsightly and detract from the look of a home. It’s not just the build-up of dirt and grime that can make a drive look grubby; green growth, lichen and algae can also have a detrimental effect on the way it looks. A driveway cleaner that addresses all of these issues can keep the surface of a driveway clean. Essential Driveway Cleaner from StoneCare4U has been specially formulated to clean all types of driveways. In addition, it can help remove organic growth such as green growth, algae and lichen, but we recommend you use green growth remover or algae remover to effectively remove organic growth completely.
Let’s look at one of the most popular driveway surfaces: block paving. Block paving has been laid in increasing amounts throughout the last 40 years and is the preferred choice for many homeowners. The challenge with block paving is keeping it clean and free from weed growth. Weeds tend to grow in the soft jointing sand quite quickly so homeowners spend a lot of their time weeding these joints. However, they often feel like they are fighting a losing battle! Applying a block paving sealer can help as it will solidify the jointing sand and make it harder for weeds to grow. However, dirt, grime, black lichen and algae can make relatively new block paving look quite old. If the block paving is not treated with an effective paving cleaner the issue can escalate so that a professional cleaning company may be called in and this can be expensive.
Imprinted concrete is another surface that has become very popular in recent years and although it is easier to keep clean than block paving it can still get quite dirty. Because of this, using a driveway cleaner for imprinted concrete makes sense. Essential Driveway Cleaner will quickly remove dirt, grime and algae from the surface of imprinted concrete and ensure it always looks like it has been recently laid. It doesn’t make sense to spend thousands of pounds on having a driveway laid and then leave it to deteriorate. Like all external surfaces, imprinted concrete needs some aspect of ongoing maintenance to ensure the ‘kerb appeal’ of a property is retained.
Lastly, there are various types of natural stone as well as pre-cast concrete slabs that are used for driveways. Natural stone, in particular, is generally very porous and tends to get dirty very quickly. It also attracts algae and lichen growth. Although natural stone is mostly laid for patios, it is occasionally used for driveways, which can be problematic. Car traffic over natural stone such as sandstone and limestone will soon make it look filthy.
Moreover, apart from using a driveway cleaner to remove the dirt and grime, we strongly recommend applying a natural stone sealer. This protects the surface and slows down deterioration. Pre-cast concrete paving slabs are similar in that they are porous and deteriorate fast if left unprotected. So, sealing them first is advisable and using a paving cleaner now and again should keep them clean.
